Volunteers Needed

If you would like to volunteer at Community Celebration in Honor of Mickey Shunick, please email celebratemickey@gmail.com by Thursday at noon.

Here is what we need:

General set-up

8:30am-11:30
3 volunteers

General set up includes hanging signs, hanging banners, situating tables, lining recycling boxes and garbage cans, checking bathrooms, directing food vendors and beverage/ice deliveries, setting up family tent and chairs, securing gates, assisting bike corral volunteers and general problem solving

Stage set up

8:30am-11:30
2 volunteers

Stage set up includes hanging a large banner, setting up chairs for family, speakers and city officials and members of the orchestra.

Public questions/problem solving

11:00-2:00
2 volunteers
2:00-6:00
2 volunteers

Public questions/problem solving includes staying at the volunteer tent and answering questions the public may have about the event, how to volunteer etc.

Program Table

11:00-2:00
3 volunteers
2:00-6:00
2 volunteers

Sitting at the Program Table includes handing out free programs and free stickers to public and either answering questions the public may have or directing them to somebody who can help at the volunteer tent.

Work the Coca-Cola booth

(includes lifting ice)
10:00-2:00
4 volunteers
2:00-5:00
4 volunteers

Working at the Coca-Cola booth requires you be physically able to lift 20 pound bags of ice. If it is a hot day, it will be hot work. Tickets will be sold and people will redeem 20 ounce bottles of Coke or water for $1 tickets. Tips cannot be accepted for this service.

Garbage and recycling

11:00-2:00
4 volunteers
2:00-6:00
4 volunteers

Garbage and recycling requires ensuring the recycling boxes and garbage cans are relined throughout the day. It may also require sorting some recyclables out of the garbage into the recycling boxes. Nancy Shunick is very concerned recycling will not happen and so this aspect, while a little dirty, is very important to her.

Art wall

11:00-2:00
2 volunteers
2:00-6:00
2 volunteers

Shahi, a friend of Mickey’s, will be on site Saturday morning to help coordinate the art wall. She will need volunteers to help artists hang their work, ensure appropriate (ie non-violent) work is hung and is pertinent to Mickey and that the guidelines have been followed (ie sales and promotion are prohibited as is giving any art to the Shunick Family). This will require sensitivity to artists who are both children and adults. This also requires the second shift people to stay behind while the ghost bike is being installed and the UL football game starts.

General tear-down

5:00-6:30
3-6 volunteers

General tear-down is an important job. Most participants will be leaving to either go on to the ghost bike installation or the UL game (or both). We really need people to stay behind and ensure that banners are taken down, signs are taken down, chairs are stacked, the art wall is cleaned up, and that garbage is not all over the place.
